State
of Design
Recognised as the peak design event of the Victorian calendar, State
of Design explored the ways in which design responds
to the changing needs of business and our society. From the creative
individuals and their stories that shape our future through to the
valuable commercial, ecological and social outcomes that can result.
The festival will have four key event arenas, the Premier’s
Design Awards, Design Capital, Design for Everyone and Design Made
Trade, each created to stimulate interest, engagement and inspiration
amongst design professionals, business groups and the general public.
Experience lectures, exhibitions, walks, talks, shows, parties, moments,
events – all offering conversations on design: what is it and
what it means to us all. Wednesday 16 to Thursday 24 July.

Refashioning
the Fashion
An exhibition featuring seven contemporary jewellers whose
work is at times experimental, confrontational and non-functional.
Alice Lang, Tiffany Parbs, Julia de Ville, Leah Heiss, Chelsea Gough,
Gabby O’Conner and Melinda Young rebuild, recreate, restore,
renovate, remake, reassemble, refashion and re-enact to create works
that transcend convention and the body, and take the notion of jewellery
to a new level of understanding.
On now until Sunday 24 August

You Make It

and reworked, using fine tailoring and conceptual templates in order
to create a new style of clothes.

Fashion
Week Wrap
Read about some of the highlights from fashion
week
here. Finally a return to the original energy and innovation
we expect to see from one of the most anticipated events on the fashion
calendar. The schedule of over 60 shows produced many stars including
Easton Pearson, Freidrich Gray, silence is golden and Konstantina
Mittas. Front row celebrities were Miranda Otto, Mischa Barton, Miranda
Kerr and Eve. Best forgotten were the "Don't you know who I am,
I don't wait in queues" tantrums outside the shows, the "Don't
you know who I am, I must sit in the front row" tantrums inside
the shows, goodie bag snatchers who stop at nothing to steal bags
which don't belong to them and that smell in The Cargo Hall....
