Kirrily
Johnston
Kicking off the week with the opening show was Kirrily Johnston who
delivered an accomplished collection "The whole theme is about
modern life and living out of a suitcase," explained Johnston
of her Modern Nomad collection. Combining her signature draping in
voluminous and fluid cotton/silk gauze dresses and gowns in a colour
palette of cream, black and dove grey with bursts of fuchsia. Gold
zips and mesh beading added edginess to the overall floaty look. View

Nicola
Finetti
The king of pretty party dresses, Nicola Finetti created a "neo-classic"
look for his latest collection. Pulling a modern twist on classic
styles by manipulation of fabric and usage of technicolours expressing
a durable, elegant, seductive chic with gothic and romantic tones.
Highlights were the bandage dresses (clearly channelling Herve Leger)
and the elegant origami repeated across the collection. View

Michelle
Jank
The highly anticipated Michelle Jank show
created further hype when the crowd was made to wait almost an hour
for the show to commence. Then out came a Grecian goddesses with slicked
back white hair. Barefoot models wore ethereal gowns in cream, black,
dove grey, some with exquisite neck pieces which looked like glass
from shattered chandeliers (with Jank, who knows, perhaps they were).

camilla
and marc
Showing
a more complicated collection this season, camilla and marc experimented
with detailing to produce an edgier new look for the label. “There’s
definitely a fierce element,” says Camilla Freeman-Topper, “It’s
a more complex version of camilla and marc – a mix of delicate
and tough elements.” There were fitted leather biker jackets,
tailored vests, tulip mini skirts and dresses in lace, white sequins
and pink with frill detail.

silence
is golden
Designer Kelvin Tam's “The Woman” was a celebration of
strong feminine tailoring and exquisite gowns, simple easy to wear
pieces and some daring corsetry; all in the trademark silence is golden
aesthetic. The highlight of the show was the Salamander Gown, an exquisite,
flowing creation in mercury leather and layers of diaphanous chiffon.
The collection was created with the distinct intention to empower
women with the tools to enhance their innate beauty and elegance.

Jessie
Hill
Inspired by the dark and romantic tales of the Renaissance & Edwardian
Period, Jessie Hill produced voluminous silhouettes by playing with
asymmetry and structured pleating. Creating modernised bustles from
endless layers of luxurious silk georgette, Hill enhances the illusion
of what’s beneath the surface. A succinct colour palette of
black alongside hues of powder blue, lemon yellow, and eggshell, Hill
managed to gain a sense of lightness and femininity amongst her dark
themes. View

Material
Boy
Mic Eaton from Material Boy presented "Lucid Objects" a
reflection of an obsession with transparent artificial materials.
Inspired by the art movement Constructivism, the Russian avant-garde
movement of commitment to total abstraction and acceptance of modernity
the collection brought together artificial objects in a dreamlike
form. Structured silk jackets, shorts and t-shirts with hand stitching
showing a delicate side then combined with Trojan sandals giving toughness
to the look. The colour palate reflected a transparent cool feel with
the contrasting elements of the red hand stitch and embroidery.

Easton
Pearson
Returning to the catwalk several years of not showing, Easton Pearson
almost drew a standing ovation from the fashion elite. "Wow,
wow, wow" is all that could be overheard. And wow it was. Inspired
by their trip to India, Lydia Pearson and Pamela Easton, showed an
amazing and colourful array of intricate pieces, including gorgeous
head pieces by Renya Xydis with flowers from Grandiflora. What a visual
splendour and what a way for the pair to celebrate their 20th anniversary
in the fashion business. View

Illionaire
Always one to watch for their creativity (their
transeasonal show last October featured mannequins
dressed in their latest collection and barely-there models dressed
as mannequins), the Illionaire show was centred around a delicate
look for women and edgy rock cool for men. Dresses were short, tight
and in bold prints as well as teal and gold. Guys wore casually tailored
shirts, vests and jackets teamed with tapered trousers. View

s&b
Vie
This is the new youth diffusion line from sass & bide.
The "Rainbows for Kate" collection, another tribute to close
friend Kate Boyson who died of breast cancer last October, was fun
and colourful. It featured short shorts, camisoles, hooded jackets,
long coats and playful dresses decorated with criss-crossing ribbons
and sequined rainbow pattern dresses. An intriguing item unveiled
during the collection, nicknamed rats, are the long lycra part footless
tights, part pants. "They're our new jeans," said designer
Heidi Middleton. View
